I'm so excited to bring you this post, as it's in promotion of a very exciting upcoming event here in Ottawa: Polo in the Park. On August 27 at Wesley Clover Parks, the Rotary Club of Ottawa South, the Ottawa Polo Club, and the host venue will be putting on a day full of exciting events (most exciting being the polo, obviously). As an inner-city child and adult, I can say without much shame and with 100% honesty that I have never been on a horse before. So, polo is kind of foreign to me. But I'm excited to learn, as it seems to be popular with British royals of a ginger, princely variety. If you catch my drift.
Being the polo newbie that I am, I hurriedly Googled "what to wear to a polo match", only to have my confusion and uncertainty increased tenfold. Some say NEVER fascinators, some say yes yes yes. Some say never wear white, or heels, or large hats, or long dresses or.... the list goes on. When it comes down to it, I say, wear what you want! I'm not really a hat or fascinator type of gal, so I'm happy to go topper-less and let my blonde mane flow free. Though there will be a hotly contested hat and fascinator competition, so perhaps if something really fancy catches my eye...
Fashion-wise, this is a great opportunity for the stylistas of Ottawa to get their strut on. This whole outfit came together for me while browsing the Zara sale, and I don't think I could possibly have come up with a more "me" polo outfit (except if the dress were black, but hey).
Outfit stuff ---
Dress, bag, and shoes - Zara
Choker necklace - JQVancouver via Etsy
Glasses - Firmoo
Also, stay tuned to my Instagram, where I will be giving away TWO (2) free tickets to the event! The event will fundraise for the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health and TROtt (Therapeutic Riding Association of Ottawa-Carleton), two fantastic local causes. Events include several arena Polo matches, dog agility and horseback riding demonstrations, a fun-filled children’s area with many activities, and a wine and beer garden.
But really, the main event is the fashion, amirite? Speaking of fashion, be sure to also check out @yowcitystyle on Instagram, where you'll see more polo fashion inspiration and some super bomb hats by local milliner Madeleine Cormier.
p.s. If you need me, I'll be at the wine garden, petting other people's dogs.
