Colourpop Highlighters // Beauty Talk

Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Monster and Fanny Pack
I feel a bit... incomplete... about this post, but here it is anyway. I've been trying out these two Colourpop highlighters for what seems like forever, and I'm still not really sure what my feelings are. Strange, right?

I have Monster (left) and Fanny Pack (right) from the Super Shock Cheek range. Both are pearlized in finish, and are the typical Colourpop creamy texture. Monster is described as a "light pink with highly opalescent duo chrome finish". It looks pretty innocuous in the pan, but on the skin I feel as though the duochrome is almost too much. At least, on my pasty face. This may look better on a darker skintone, as the intensity of the pink (and almost greeny-gold duochrome?!) would be dialled down a bit. It's just a weird colour to be marketed as a highlight, in my opinion.

Fanny Pack, which seems to be gone from the website, is a "silvery white pearl". I think it's much more universal than Monster, and definitely my preference of the two! It is a bit less "silvery" than described, as it definitely has a hint of golden warmth, but I think it leans mostly neutral.

Honestly, I think it's the texture that has me still on the fence. It's best applied with fingers (I've found brushes to be pretty useless here), but ... then it's all over your fingers!! The colour is so concentrated that your fingers are now absolutely smothered in shimmer. Depending on when you put on your highlight during your routine, it can be a bit of an annoyance (though having dirty fingers at any time while applying makeup is an annoyance, really...). So while I like the colours and longevity, I'm still not sold on a cream highlight. Perhaps there is a brush out there that can solve all my problems. Help a girl out!

  1. I feel this way about Colourpop face products in general! I want to love them but I never ever reach for it and hate using my fingers!

    1. Relieved that I'm not alone! I think I'll stick to the lip products for now...
