Zara Tie-Up Leather Ballerinas | Shoe Review

It took me three tries to get these from Zara - three times, I signed up for the "notify me when available" option when these were inevitably sold out. Twice, they sold out again in mere hours. Third time really is a charm, I suppose.

There are both pros and cons to these beauties, and I thought I'd share in the event that you happen to be stalking these online (as I did). You can find them here, by the way.

Pros:
  • They're true to size. I'm always a 39 at Zara, and these were no different.
  • The price is right, for leather, at $70 CDN. The leather is lovely, and makes the shoe conform better to your foot (which is definitely a plus in such close-fitting shoes).
  • They're adorable on, and so covetable right now. I've had so many people stop me to ask where my shoes are from!
  • Lovely dupes of the Aquazzura Christy flats.
Cons:
  • Ouch. I'm not sure if it's just me, but these did a lot of rubbing and blistering my first few wears. Even after slathering the insides with Vaseline (as usual), I came away with both a bloody toe and a rubbed raw toe. I also experienced rubbing on the back of my ankle. Every time I wear them is an improvement, but my lesson here is to make sure you've worn these in a bit before relying on them for an extended period of time.
  • The leather is a tad delicate. I scuffed both toes on my first outing, and it's not as though I'm new to the pointy toe flat circus. I was able to glue the scuffed part of the leather back on, but the toes just don't look the same now.
  • Only available in this nude colour at Zara. There's another lace up option, but it's not this exact style. I've been trying to acquire the Topshop version of these for a while now - in either black or snakeskin, I'm not picky - because nude isn't exactly my go-to when it comes to shoes. But I'm making do, obviously.
  • They're confusing to tie. Do I want a weird bow at the front or the back? Which way do I wrap the cord around my ankle? One of life's dilemmas.

Pros and cons considered, these shoes are still cute as hell and I highly recommend giving them a try if you're able to. Fingers crossed I can get my hands on the Topshop ones - we're getting a Topshop here in Ottawa in October, so I'm hoping they will still be stocked then. I'm a bit wary of ordering them online from the Topshop website (and they're not available at all on The Bay's online shop!) as it's all in Pounds Sterling, and the shipping is a bit of a bomb too. #CanadianProblems, you feel me?

Fall Wishlist | Fashion & Accessories

It kind of pains me to accept that summer is almost over, but with cooler weather comes the opportunity for some (wait for it) "justifiable" shopping. Holes in the wardrobe that need filling, and all that. Granted, not all of the below items are necessities, but if I only ever bought necessities I would definitely not be in the business of running a fashion blog...
Fall shopping wishlist ft. Acne, Allsaints, Aritzia, Chloe, Aquazzura, Levi's, etc.

First on my wishlist are these Acne booties. I have a Zara version and am obsessed - I can only imagine how beautiful and luxurious these babies would be. The other pair of shoes I'm coveting are the Aquazzura Belgravia or Christy flats. Again, I have a Zara version but I'm convinced the real thing is infinitely better.

Outerwear is always a struggle for me. It gets so cold so quickly here in Canada that there's hardly time for cute coats and jackets before it's time to pull out the Canada Goose parka. This Allsaints Addison leather jacket would be perfect for both the spring and autumn transition.

For layering, I'm loving an oversized cardigan or poncho. This one is from Aritzia, and is an updated version of the Ionic Cape I already own from them (and love). It would be great over these Levi's boyfriend jeans - a style I have yet to find my perfect pair of.

Another fall outfit I'm looking forward to is high-waisted black trousers and a black and white striped top. You all know I'm a lover of neutrals, so this is not a surprise.

The final item on my wishlist? The small Chloe Drew bag. It's absolutely gorgeous, but I simply cannot justify the price right now. I can still dream, though!

What's on your fall wishlist? Can you believe it's almost September? Bananas!

Summer Layers, Zara Sale | OOTD

I feel like I may have a bit more than usual to chat about here - I hope you'll stick with me :)

I'll get to the outfit first... it's actually a thin sweater layered over a dress, and I'm really digging the faux drop-waist look it has created. I don't typically like this style on me, but I feel like it works here. Maybe it's the whole-lotta-leg going on? While I'm not entirely sure what led me to try this layering, I have to say I'm glad I did!

Okay, so we definitely have to talk about this bag. It's Forever 21 and looks almost identical to the Chloe Drew bag. This fact and my purchase of this bag are no coincidence. I'm a little obsessed with the Drew, but it's way outside my price range at the moment. So, I'm making do!

My current "realistic" dream bag is the Gucci Soho Disco bag in navy. I've been stalking it online, but would really love to try it on in a store. I was able to try on the Chloe Drew at Nordstrom before they all sold out, and it cemented my love.

Shoes. I'm always a sucker for a Zara sale, and this summer was no different. These heels were pretty cheap and just spoke to me. They're surprisingly not horrific comfort-wise, which is a major bonus. I mean, I won't be running marathons in them but they're not bad.

My final point here is about my hair - I have it in a blunt all-one-length deal right now, and I'm loving it. I'm going in for a colour (!!!!) next week, and I'm thinking of going lighter. Champagne balayage sort of thing. I may change my mind between now and then, but for now that's the plan!
