New Loves, More Stripes | OOTD

I have a sinking feeling that my days of eagerly throwing on a sweater and pants and heading out the door are quickly coming to an end. Gosh, do I ever love sweaters. But summertime in Canada is extremely sticky and anti-sweater, so I'm bracing myself and getting all of my stylish arm and leg covering in while I can. Like this fabulous outfit.

As you can see, I'm still kicking it with these faux leather leggings from Aritzia. My love for them is still going strong, and in return they have yet to fall apart or lose their shape. Thanks, Aritzia.

A newer love is with Club Monaco. It's only recently that I've shopped "seriously" in there, but in the past few months I've come away with three really nice pieces so I think it's safe to say I'm a convert. It helps that the new store at the Rideau Centre is beautiful and much bigger than the tiny shop I often skipped on my way to Zara. In this outfit, I'm wearing my newest finds: a cropped striped sweater and leather espadrilles. Both are divine.

Special shoutout to the horticultural building at the Ottawa Experimental Farm for being so darn photogenic. What a gorgeous location for photos, if I do say so myself.

Bitch Is Actually Perfect | Beauty Talk

This was major impulse, I will say this up front, and it had a significant chance of going horribly wrong. I hardly ever buy lipsticks online unless I've seen them in person. I never trust internet swatches when it comes to lipstick. That is, until a few days ago when I threw caution to the wind and ordered two lipsticks from the Charlotte Tilbury website, which now ships to Canada and was offering free shipping for the month of June (!!).

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G lipsticks in Nude Kate and Bitch Perfect

I was a boring beauty blogger and ordered Nude Kate and Bitch Perfect, the latter mostly because of its amazing name. Both are a tad warmer than I'm used to, but since it's summer and the sun is shining, I thought I would try some warmer tones.

I won't go on and on, though; I really like these. Great colour payoff, not drying, good longevity. I was a bit terrified of Nude Kate when I first applied it straight out of the tube, but after experimenting with application I found a way that really works for me: carefully dabbing it on. Bitch Perfect requires a lot less care, and I absolutely love the result. Bitch is actually perfect.

Both are really natural and not at all daring, but honestly that's generally my jam when it comes to lips. I'm a wimp. Nude and neutral are where it's at for me.

Next on my list for Charlotte Tilbury may be the Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk, as well as one of the Cheek to Chic blushes. I'm a huge cheek product junkie so perhaps when I'm feeling a bit rich I'll place another order. For now I'll happily parade around with the knowledge that my lip colour is called Bitch Perfect and that I look fabulous in it. Oh, the sacrifices I make for this blog...

What have you tried from Charlotte Tilbury? Any recommendations?

A Zebra and Her Stripes | OOTD

... or another equally as ridiculous pun or joke about stripes and fashion. But I can be down with being a zebra, so I'm going with it. Stripes are my jam lately, if you hadn't noticed. So look at my stripes! Look at them!

This was a pleasant surprise from Forever21 recently, among some other pieces that you will be seeing soon. I hate going in there, but lately their "old people" clothes game has been so on point I've been able to power through. I'm very results-oriented.

Some other new pieces here worth noting - not quite as "budget" as Forever21, but hey. We're already here.

First, my Daniel Wellington watch. This was my main souvenir from Newfoundland. Not exactly the typical St. John's souvenir, but whenever I look at it I think of my trip, so it certainly serves the purpose.

Second, my new Warby Parker Crossfield aviators. I had been wanting a new pair of sunnies for a while now, and I finally bit the bullet. I'm in love!

St. John's (Part 1) | Travel Diary

Perhaps this isn't the truest form of a travel diary, as it's not so much a diary as it is a little chat and a whole lot of photographs. No matter. As you may have heard (or not), I spent five days in St. John's, Newfoundland last month visiting some of my online blogger/vlogger friends. A rather bold and "outside my comfort zone" move for me, but I did it and I regret nothing.

This whole trip really came about because I had casually mentioned that I had always wanted to see an iceberg in real life. Bucket list sort of deal, you know? Then it was suggested that I should go to St. John's, which is smack in the middle of Iceberg Alley. So I did, just like that. And I saw ONE iceberg. It was tiny. A baby berg. But you know, it's better than no bergs at all!

I also did a lot more walking and hiking than I thought I would... one morning we hiked (half) of Signal Hill and it was so lovely. I made some poor footwear choices but I rallied and even went on quite a few solo hikes. St. John's really is so beautiful - the fact that it truly is a natural harbour makes the landscape so fascinating. A narrow opening, then all kinds of huge ships docked. St. John's is closer to England than it is to Vancouver. Crazy. There are lots of cannons all over, too - even a neat little WWII gun battery - that I'm sure would have been extremely useful in the event of an attack (not).

Honestly I still can't believe I did this, given my near constant struggles with anxiety (but that's a whole other conversation). I'm absolutely thrilled that I did it, as I met some amazing girls and had the best time I've had in a long while. Shoutouts to @makingupashlee, @kadiewanders, @chelsimadonna, @samanthajaneYT, and @misshannahMD for showing me a great Newfie time. I couldn't always understand what you were saying, but I had a blast nonetheless ;)

So Culottes | OOTD

I have to say I surprised myself with this. When this trend first started gathering steam, I had resigned myself to the fact that it would never work for me. Now here we are.

Culottes. On me. For reals.

An OOTD ft. Zara culottes and high heel sandals, my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag in Flamma, the Aritzia Mony knit crop top, a Forever21 denim jacket, and a body chain.

Part of my still can't really believe it. My small frame isn't overwhelmed, I don't have to wear heels (but they are recommended), they're chic as hell... I'm sold. These were cheap as chips at Zara, and probably won't survive the summer, but I'm loving them and am going to thoroughly enjoy them while I can!

Chic with denim, chic without. That's another thing I've been loving: my denim jacket from Forever21. Also stupidly inexpensive, also amazing. The perfect top half of a Canadian tuxedo (lolz) for when I'm feeling fancy, or for those instances when I suddenly realize that I'm wearing all black in the summer (which is often) and need something to soften the look.

But seriously though. It's amazing and I love it.

In other news, I just got home from my trip to St. John's, Newfoundland. I hope to have a few blog posts up about my trip in the near future - and hopefully a vlog! - so keep an eye out if that kind of thing interests you :) I went pretty hard with this denim jacket, so it'll be visible in a lot of my photos. Giving you all fair warning!
