A Pastel Plot Twist | OOTD

Here's a bit of a plot twist for you: an OOTD post in which yours truly is not wearing predominantly black and/or navy. Insert your favourite shocked-face emoji here! Not that this is a particularly ground-breaking departure from my regular uniform, but it's a big enough change that I felt the overwhelming need to point it out. Emphatically. So here it is...

A summer OOTD ft. an Aritzia scarf and knit crop top, an old Zara skirt, a Forever 21 jean jacket, and my trusty Balenciaga Velo.

Still a hint of black (I can't give it up completely!) and still mostly blue (but not navy!), but I've also brought in some purple to the palette. This scarf is pretty new, from Aritzia. Please, please, try to contain your shock and disbelief that I bought something there... *not*. After essentially marrying my blue and burgundy blanket scarf all winter, I decided I needed a summer alternative that would not cause me to melt into a puddle, because surprise, wool scarves are hot. Enter this beauty, made of mostly cotton, and still a bit of wool, because clearly I cannot fully let go just yet.

It's also the season for my Balenciaga Velo. I had put it away for the winter due to its colour and my paranoia that it would not survive the weather, and it is now ready to make its grand re-entrance. I'm actually thinking of sending it away to have it re-dyed back to its original Jacynthe colour. Whoever owned it previously was not very kind to it. I'm still trying to figure out the logistics of doing that, but I think it will be in my summer/fall plans (but let's not talk about fall just yet!).

Beauty Talk | Brows & Nails

I've done two beauty-related things this week that I had never done before, and while a tad overwhelming it has also been a great learning experience for me. I'm not very well-versed in terms of beauty procedures - like waxing, manicures, pedicures, facials, etc. - so for me to jump in twice in one week is pretty groundbreaking!

So, I got my eyebrows threaded. I was 100% done with having eyebrow breakouts after waxing, so I decided to try something else. Also, my brows were getting pretty scary, so I needed to do something with them, stat. I ended up at the Kurves brow kiosk in the mall, something I had often peered curiously at while walking by but never seriously considered. This was not my first choice - the place I wanted to try couldn't fit me in for a walk-in, so this was my backup. Quick hit: hurts the same as waxing, but doesn't yank off an entire layer of skin (score!), takes under 5 minutes, and is super inexpensive. I think I'm a convert.

A selfie showing newly threaded eyebrows.

I have no "before" photos of my caterpillars (why would I want to document that?), but they were bad. This is the "after", after some Anastasia Dipbrow in Medium Brown. My right brow is a bit thinner than I would like, but honestly I think I'm the only person who would ever notice it. For under $15 with a tip, this is magic. Brows are officially back on fleek

Second beauty risk/experiment this week: a gel manicure. I was with my cousin when she got one done and have been curious ever since. I decided to give it a go, as I'm the worst at keeping nail polish on, but love the look of a nice clean manicure. Also, I'm travelling next week and don't want to look like a shlub. It was a tad pricey, but it's supposed to last for two weeks, which would be nothing short of a miracle for me. Let's do it.

I got my manicure at the Upkeep Shoppe in Little Italy, and it was absolutely lovely. My manicurist was so thorough with my cuticles and nail shaping, it was so worth the price (and nice tip!). My nails still look amazing, even in the wake of the purple Manic Panic mishap I had last night... Let's just say my "In Bloom" pink creme nails have a slight lilac tinge to them now. They were much worse until I discovered an absolutely brilliant trick to get most of the dye out: hairspray! Now there's just a hint of purple and are almost good as new. Thanks, Internet!

Have you ever threaded your eyebrows? How about gel/shellac nails? Are they worth it?

Be Wine

I've gone a bit out of my comfort zone and purchased white denim. Granted, my original goal had been full length white jeans, but I saw these shorts at Aritzia and when I tried them on with a beautiful knit crop top that I am currently obsessed with... well, I felt like Beyonce. And you can't really put a price on that (but actually, $125 for the outfit, because ahem, Beyonce). So here's an outfit that's half Beyonce, and half single cat dog lady.

OOTD ft. Stay Home Club "Be Wine" t-shirt, Aritzia Azure Skies shorts, Mansur Gavriel bucket, and Forever21 espadrilles

BE WINE. Is there a greater shirt in this universe? This is by the Stay Home Club from Victoire on Dalhousie. It's kind of enormous (one size does not always fit all!) so I've been either tucking it in like crazy, or wearing it as a sleep shirt since it practically goes down to my knees. Both are perfectly acceptable in my books, as it broadens the functionality, thus decreasing cost per wear. Multipurpose is the best purpose! Bonus: it fits well within my new personal goal to wear more white this summer! It hasn't been until recently that I've noticed how much black and navy I wear year-round. I mean, it's one thing to wear neutrals often, but my black/navy love is getting a bit out of control, and they're not the most summery hues. I'm not a huge colour person in general, but I need to branch out!

I'm also going to throw some love at these shoes - crazy cheap at Forever21. I'm talking 14 bucks cheap, and zero breaking-in time needed. They're my first pair of espadrilles, and my first F21 shoes in a long while, and I'm kind of in love! Their game has been upped, big time. I ended up with two other pairs of shoes from there as well... not nearly as comfy, but incredibly stylish and a great price too! Yes, they're identical except for the shiny disco colour vs. grandma black. Once I find something I like, there's no stopping me.

The Jogger Pants

You may remember I mentioned a few posts ago that my obsession with loose jogger pants has gotten out of control and a bit expensive - well, here's more proof. And perhaps proof that my love for Aritzia is getting a bit out of control too, but that's a whole other story. How does one look into sponsorship/free clothes opportunities? Just kidding! Sort of. (call me, Aritzia)

OOTD ft. Aritzia Wilfred Marais pants, Aritzia Georgia shirt, Mansur Gavriel bucket bag, and Zara jewelled sandals

The other day the SA couldn't find me in their system, and as she was correcting the spelling error she made in my name she asked me if I had ever shopped there before. I just  stared at her and nodded and when she finally found my file - yes, my file - she just laughed and said, oh, yep, you definitely have. I may have felt a bit of shame in that moment, but mostly I was just excited to have something new and pretty - the Marais pants. They're soft and thin and slouchy and so flattering. And just "nice" enough that I can wear them to work! See, this jogger thing could actually be much worse. I could be obsessed with cocktail dresses or something equally as limiting. Joggers are universal! So worth the money!

You all know I'm a bit of a crop top fan (okay, a lot of a crop top fan), and I had had success pairing this Aritzia (shocker) crop with other joggers, so I figured it would work with the Marais. I was right. I absolutely love this look, and am quietly and anxiously awaiting the day when midriff is work-appropriate. I have a sinkingfeeling I will be waiting a long time.

Also featured here: my alien shoes. Have I called them that on here yet? They're Zara and my favourite ever, but when I first saw them in the nude colour all I could think of were aliens. It's still all I can think of when I see them and wear them but it's more of a "haha, aliens" sort of thing now.

That was a really weird sentence to write. Sorry.

Are you on the jogger pant bandwagon? Let me know where some of your favourite pairs are from - most of mine are Aritzia and it's getting ridiculous.

Clinique Lately | Cheek Pop Love

I had told myself I was going to wait to buy these, since they're not limited edition and can be easily purchased at any time in the future... but then I saw them in-store and (oops) touched them and (oops) it was love. Clinique's new shades in their Cheek Pop are divine, and I had bring some home. Right away.

Clinique Cheek Pop blushes in Heather Pop and Pansy Pop

I ended up with Heather Pop and Pansy Pop to add to my much-loved but very lonely lineup of Plum Pop. My new acquisitions are both cooler toned and incredibly luminous. Not shimmery, but definitely not matte either. Just... glowy. Heather Pop is a nice medium pink, but not all that typical. There's something different about it that I can't quite put my finger on, and it really drew me to the colour.

I did have a bit of trouble "starting" Pansy Pop - it was a bit stiff in the pan my first day using it - but it seems to have sorted itself out, because it's beautiful and smooth and delightful now. I have a serious soft spot for lavender-toned blushes, given they're pretty foolproof for pale cool-toned skin, so this has serious potential to be a major favourite. I'm wearing it in the photo below, and while buildable, it's a lot less scary than it looks in the pan!

Wearing Clinique Cheek Pop blush in Pansy Pop

Have you tried any of the new Cheek Pop colours? Clinique has really been hitting it out of the park for me lately with their cheek products - I'm still obsessed with their Chubby Highlight stick and my obsession with these blushes is growing by the day. I had my hand on Cola Pop but chickened out at the last minute... maybe I'll be brave another day :)
