Spring Layers & Leopard | OOTD

I'm starting this post with a rather bold assertion: this is one my favourite outfits ever. It was a bit of an experiment in layering, and is definitely not for everybody, but when I look at this all I see is "me". This is my "me-est" outfit yet, I think. Legs, layering, defined waist, leopard... all of my boxes are checked, and then some.

About a month ago, our tiny Club Monaco had a bit of a fire sale - they were moving across the hall and put everything on markdown for at least 70% off. This silk dress looked pretty sad on the hanger, but I used my imagination and took a chance on it without trying it on. Just over $40 later, it was mine and ended up being absolutely perfect. The moment I tried it on at home, my brain wandered to imagining it with my new Rag & Bone vest and Mansur Gavriel bag. So here they are, a nice little happy family.

My bare legs were perhaps a bit premature, due to some wishful weather-thinking... so out came my fabulous Beckledge coat from Aritzia. It's funny how much attention a furry leopard print coat can command - I definitely got a few stares and side eyes, but I wasn't too bothered. Doing OOTD posts for this long has helped me develop a thicker skin... acting casual and aloof while posing for photos in a public place, getting weird looks from people walking by... The blogging business (or hobby!) is definitely not for the timid or self-conscious :)

All Black Everything | OOTD

Finally the sunshine up here in Canada is mirroring what it was like during my January vacation in Florida, so I thought it timely to (finally!) share the last of my OOTD shoots taken down there in a short little post. It's about time, right? I'm not even that confident that I remember every detail about my outfit, so you'll have to bear with me if I make a mistake or two!

If you've been with me long enough, you'll know I'm a huge monochromatic/neutrals fan when it comes to outfits. So this all-black ensemble in the sunshine should not surprise you in the least.

All black OOTD, with H&M trousers, blazer, and tank top, with a Coach bag and Target sandals.

These pants have lead to my current obsession with slouchy jogger trousers. I have so many pairs and am obsessed... it's getting serious. These were cheap as chips at H&M, and are so comfy and flattering. My most recent pairs are not so cheap (more on those in another post, I suppose!) but I think my love for the style is real enough to invest. Casual wear and work wear? YES PLEASE!

This blazer (also H&M) was an impulse sale buy a few years ago, and my goodness has it ever been a great purchase. Skinny lapels, no button, and rolled sleeves - so chic and so perfect. To be honest, I'm not a huge H&M girl in general, but I do have a few gems from there still kicking it in my closet!

Outfit bits that I remember (sorry):

Trousers - H&M (similar here)
Blazer - H&M (really old, but similar here)
Sandals - Target (RIP Target Canada)(link!)
Bag - Coach Outlet (similar here)
Tank top - H&M I think?
Necklaces - Anthropologie and Tiffany & Co.
Glasses - Warby Parker (link!

My gosh, looking at these photos makes me miss Florida! We're just around the corner from the wonderful Canadian summer weather here, so I won't need to be nostalgic for much longer :)

Odacité & Some Skincare Favourites

As some of you may recall, my skin is an absolute diva when it comes to behaving properly. It just doesn't cooperate. It's sensitive, very fair, oily-combination with a tendency for dehydration, and (here's the big one) acne-prone. I also cannot restrain myself when presented with new face products, so that usually ends in disaster too. Which is why I was a bit apprehensive when the California-based, "natural and organic" skincare brand Odacité wanted to send me some product to try. Obviously I ended up throwing this apprehension to the wind, because here we are and my skin is actually quite happy, thankyouverymuch!

Four products from Odacité: a facial oil, an eye cream, a hydration masque, and a daytime moisturizer.

The above four products ended up being my favourite and most-used out of the wide array of samples I tried as part of the Discovery Kit for Combination Skin. My very favourite was the Beautiful Day Moisturizer, and I was almost in tears (perhaps that's a bit dramatic, but you feel me) when I was finished the small sample amount. It only lasted me about a week and a half, but my time with it was wonderful. It was so gentle, and left my skin feeling hydrated and soft. I also noticed that my typical midday oily t-zone was a bit late and not as obvious - major win in my books! I'm back to using up the moisturizer I had been using before, and I definitely notice the difference.

The Ultra Effective Eye Cream and the Hydration Masque have become regulars in my nighttime routine. I don't delude myself into believing that my hereditary dark circles will magically disappear, but I like a good eye cream and I really love how gentle and hydrating this one is. It isn't greasy or globby, and it soaks in really quickly. As for the masque, there are a few ways to use it - my favourite is to pop it on right before bed and let it work all night whenever my skin is feeling a bit dry. Again, not greasy or globby (new fav word, here) and I wake up with nice, soft skin.

Odacité's Camelina-Chamomile Serum Concentrate for Sensitive Skin.

Now for the facial oil, the Camelina-Chamomile Serum Concentrate for Sensitive Skin (that's me!!). This is not my first foray into facial oils, so I was already pretty excited to try this and knew what to expect. Odacité says you can apply the oil directly to your face, or mix a few drops with your regular moisturizer. I went the "slap it right on" route and really liked the results. I tried applying it in the evening and in the morning, sometimes alone as my daytime moisturizer. Honestly, there is nothing about this oil that my skin didn't like. I think my all-time favourite facial oil remains the Tata Harper Replenishing Nutrient Complex, but that's more of a nighttime-only product for me, while this oil can be used any time of day. Full marks for versatility :)

Have you tried Odacité? It has only recently launched in Canada, so I wasn't very familiar with the brand before having the chance to try it out. Their products can be purchased online here, or if you're in Ottawa and you want to touch and "play" with the products first (as I like to do!), Odacité can be found at Oresta spa locations :)

p.s. Odacité is also cruelty-free, so that's always a plus!

Classic Weekend Chic | OOTD

I feel like this is a bit different in terms of my regular style, but there's just something about this outfit that really speaks to me. I love it. I'm obsessed. I think a lot of it is the vest - a little reveal, here, I suppose - which was my opening day purchase from Nordstrom. It was expensive and I held my breath a bit as I handed over my credit card, but it's beautifully made (by hand!) and is a classic style. No regrets.

I've found myself to be more of a collared shirt person than I ever could have expected. I only started wearing them once I started working in a business environment, and now I find myself wearing them even for casual wear. I love the way this shirt - buttoned all the way up - looks with this vest. I tried it with my usual few-buttons-open look and it just didn't look right. The rolled sleeves keep it fresh and a bit casual, and you all know I'm a sucker for stripes. And navy blue. And shamelessly mixing black and navy.

OOTD ft. Rag & Bone long vest, Aritzia leggings, Zara boots, Victoire Hen necklace, and Alexander Wang bag

I'll give you a little heads up that you'll be seeing a bit less of this Wang bag in the near future. Not that it's being retired (no way!) but I recently received my Mansur Gavriel bucket bag and it's glorious and perfect and I'm obsessed with it. If you follow my Instagram (@xochloegordon) or have checked out the Snapwidget at the top of my blog you'll have seen it a couple of times already but I'll go ahead and reiterate: Wow. Wow. Wow. And imagine that, I already have a funny little story for you: I was in Aritzia the other day with my friend and I was carrying the bag. One of the sales associates came up and told me she loved my bag and asked where it was from. I said Mansur Gavriel and she looked totally puzzled... so I just said that it was from the Internet. My friend - who bore witness to my hysteria over purchasing and waiting for it - thought it was hilarious that only a small group of people really understand how "hardcore" it is to actually have this bag! It makes me feel a bit crazy but also like I'm a member of a really cool club with excellent taste...

Finally, I'm not sure if I've given these boots the love they deserve on here. Given, my last few OOTD posts were shot before I had received them in the mail, but I feel like I wear them enough in my OOTDs on Instagram that some of you may recognize them. They're F/W 2014 from Zara and are my favourite. Sleek leather booties with a pointed toe and a slight block heel. SO chic and so classic. Best of all, I got them on sale for $60! Score!
