Sartorial Sun Protection

I'm prefacing this post by telling you I've been on vacation in Florida for nearly three weeks, so my mind has been a little bit "elsewhere" (i.e. on the beach, in the sun/shade, on the patio, etc.). I'm also warning you that I shot quite a few OOTDs using a very limited wardrobe, so the next few OOTD posts you'll see may have some repeats in terms of clothing items, particularly my Alexander Wang bag and a cheap as chips pair of sandals from Target. So you've been warned.

Vacation OOTD ft. my Aritzia Yasmin dress, layered under a GAP chambray button-down, and the usual AW Rocco.

One of our first days down south we visited one of my favourite places in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area, which is Fort De Soto Park. The beaches are beautiful, the pier allows for some amazing views, and the historic fort from the Spanish-American War era is always a cool little tour. It's a neat little trip back in time, even if most of the cannons are facing the wrong way...

My outfit here is an attempt at something breezy and cool, yet covered up. I don't do well in the sun, so whenever sartorially possible I like to have my shoulders and arms covered when I'm going to be outside for an extended period of time. A discovery from this past summer is an open button-down over a dress. It acts as an extremely light jacket; Genius and chic, if I do say so myself. My current favourite is this quite old and unbelievably soft boyfriend button-down from The Gap. It's perfect.

I'm actually a bit pained to write up this post - I'll be heading back to the frigid Canadian winter in under 48 hours, so the next posts featuring my (outdoor!) Floridian outfit shots are going to have to keep me warm until May. What an awful thing snow and subzero temperatures are. Ugh.

p.s. I wasn't kidding when I said the cannons were facing the wrong way. I'm skeptical of how much protection this fort - which is on a key - would have provided. It's a nice place to visit though!

Cold Weather/Catwoman Chic

These darn leggings again... I know, I know, I just posted about them and they're back. They never really left, actually. I'm still obsessed. Let's just face it - Aritzia's Daria faux leather leggings go with absolutely everything and should be worn at all times.

My latest obsessions in one OOTD - Aritzia's Daria leggings and Fei coat, with my new Rag & Bone booties and Alexander Wang Rocco bag.

As I'm sure has become obvious, I'm going through a bit of a "sweaters and leggings" phase. And a leather/faux leather phase. And a black/grey/neutrals phase. Hopefully you're not too bored of me yet, because I can keep on this theme for quite a while if the inspiration keeps coming.

All three of my latest phases have come together here and I think I look very Cozy Catwoman-Chic. If there was no such thing before, there certainly is now. I'm really surprised by how much I love this chunky turtleneck sweater. Normally I absolutely loathe turtlenecks, but this sweater gets a pass because 1) It's super slouchy, so it's not really a turtleneck and 2) Somehow it manages to look okay on me (!?). Also it was $20 on sale, so there's that too.

If you've seen one of my latest Instagram snaps you'll recognize the necklace I'm wearing. It's a really cool blue druzy stone on a long gold chain from a local boutique called Victoire which sells jewelry and fashion by Canadian designers. I gave and received from Victoire this Christmas, making me a very happy girl!

You may also be noticing my boots situation... and if you look hard enough you'll see they're actually peep toes and I'm wearing black socks to cover up the toes. Honestly this was more practical than anything since it was around -10C when I took these photos, but I like that these can do some double duty if necessary!

Prior to this impromptu OOTD shoot, I had actually been downtown to purchase more jewelry from Victoire to complement something I had received for Christmas. Keep an eye out for a future post on my newest pieces!
