Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow in Grège

Dior 5-Colour Eyeshadow palette in Grège ($60 for 0.21 oz), colours described as "light brown shimmer/ cream shimmer/ light taupe sheen/ plum brown sheen/ gunmetal grey shimmer". I feel like it's pretty obvious which one is which...

I picked this beauty up a while back, during the Sephora VIB 15% off promo. I was feeling "splurgey" (I feel like that should be a real word, since I feel that way much too often) so when I walked by the Dior display and my eyes landed on the 5 Colour Palettes, I actually stopped and swatched and considered. And bought. They have 11 "permanent" palettes, so there are a few choices, but this one was a no-brainer for me. I'd say a good 50% of these feature pink shadows, which I already have tons of, so I decided on a good neutral palette with a cool tone to it. Yay for Grège!

I have to say that if you're looking for wham! bam! pigmentation and impact, these won't be up your alley.  But, if you're looking for a palette featuring smooth, easy to blend, colour coordinated quasi-neutrals with a lovely satiny finish, then I'd say these are certainly worth a look. This is my go-to palette when I'm getting ready for work, and it gives me so many options!

Some swatches, made extra large for your viewing pleasure:

The only shade that gave the slightest... difficulty... is the middle taupe colour. It's by no means a dud, but I was a little bit disappointed that it's so sheer, since it's such a beautiful colour. But it is described as a "light taupe sheen", so Dior's not at fault here :) I still wear it almost every day as my lid colour!

final thoughts
  • I really recommend checking these out if you're looking for a splurge. But I will also encourage you to buy it only if you love all 5 colours in the palette (or minimum 4 if it's a really big big love for them!). It's easier to justify if you know you're going to be using all 5 colours!
  • These palettes are expertly colour coordinated, no joke. Every colour looks beautiful with every other colour in the palette.
  • Next on my list to check out: Royal Khaki, Incognito (though I fear it's a bit too warm for me?), and Stylish Move.
  • Will try to post an eye look using this sometime soon! It's so tough to get a good eye shot, especially when I'm running out the door for work!
